A significant rescue operation unfolded in the region of Lamia, Greece, as the 7th Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAC) successfully extracted a group of hikers from the snow-covered Kallidromo Mountain. The incident took place when six individuals found themselves trapped on their hike near the mountain chapel of Panagia Thermopylon.
The hikers had embarked on their journey from the Leonidas monument early on Saturday, intending to explore the scenic snowy landscape. However, as they reached higher elevations, they realised the challenging conditions and impending darkness made it impossible to return safely. At approximately 4:00 p.m., the group contacted emergency services using the "112" line for assistance.

Efforts by firefighters from Lamia and nearby services commenced from the Thermopylae area. However, progress was hindered due to deep snow and fallen trees obstructing rural paths. Recognising the limitations, the rescue teams utilised an emergency tracked vehicle to navigate the demanding terrain, setting off from the village of Eleftherochori.
By 6:45 p.m., rescuers reached the isolated spot where the hikers awaited help. The group was safely transported back to their starting point, thanks to the careful coordination and expertise of the rescue teams involved.
This operation highlights the dedication of the Greek emergency services in managing challenging rescue missions in harsh winter conditions, ensuring that the hikers were returned to safety without incident.
