The Archbishop of Albania, Anastasios, remains in a critical condition at the Evangelismos Hospital in Athens. The 95-year-old clergyman's health deteriorated following his admission to a hospital in Tirana due to a viral infection on 30 December. However, a subsequent decline in his health, including a serious gastrointestinal event, necessitated his air transfer to Greece on 3 January.

Under the supervision of Professor Anastasia Kotanidou, a specialist in Pulmonology and Intensive Care, the Archbishop is receiving close medical attention. Doctors have been making concerted efforts to stabilize his condition given his complex medical history.

His critical status has drawn attention from national leaders. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the hospital to receive updates on the Archbishop's condition and expressed his support to the medical team. In addition, the visits continued with other prominent figures such as Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, and the leader of SYRIZA, Sokrates Famellos.

The Archbishop is well-respected for his efforts in interfaith dialogue and his significant contributions to rebuilding the church in Albania. In the wake of his health challenges, prayers for his recovery have become a part of the Theophany celebrations, which is a major event in the Orthodox Christian calendar, underscoring the depth of his influence and the esteem in which he is held both ecclesiastically and beyond.
